If you have not seen the entire show or the finale, beware of spoilers ahead!
I was watching the finale on Greek TV on Sunday morning, and it just seems to me that, even though Dr. Trebla being Uncle Albert was a great plot twist, it was hinted too early and too obviously. Here are the hints we were given:
- At the end of Operation Dog and Hippy Boy, we see the reflection of Trebla's name card on Phibes' metal hand - and the spot is circled right before the screen goes black. As it was stated in the finale, "Trebla" backwards in "Albert", so it was a very clear hint to be seen at the end of season 1.
- In the very next episode, Shaggy and Scooby World, the season 2 premiere, as Phibes flees away near the end of the episode, we see Dr. Trebla running behind him. He slips and his wig goes off, revealing a ponytail, which he hides quickly with the wig again. If the fans remember at the time of watching that episode, Uncle Albert has a ponytail, so it was dead obvious.
- And finally, in the series finale Uncle Albert Alert, even though it was supposed to be revealed earlier in the episode, after the teaser and the theme song, we see Phibes telling his techies, Agents 1 and 2 and Trebla that he's aware of the presence of a traitor in the lair. Trebla's name card falls down and Phibes picks it up, holding it between his and Trebla's faces. Being transparent, "Trebla" seen backwards from where Phibes was standing as "Albert" was very clear. Still though, I feel like it was revealed too soon in the episode.
(unfortunately, even the teaser-less version of t he episode is off the internet and I can't provide a screenshot)
What do you think? Should Uncle Albert's identity have been hidden more carefully and less obviously?
