During the early episodes of Scooby doo and scrappy doo show? I thought it was fred's? I mean when shaggy first started traveling alone with the dogs. I just saw the episodes. What could fred have been doing that he couldn't bring his love of his life? Lol.

I believe at that point in the franchise, it wasn't really said which one person officially owned the Mystery Machine (also before Fred was characterized as being a little too fond of the Mystery Machine...). The gang had gone their own ways to pursue different careers at that point if the later The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show/The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries shows are anything to go by, and I suppose it was fitting Shaggy had the Mystery Machine considering him and the dogs were doing a lot of traveling and later mystery solving again whereas Fred was just simply stated as being a mystery novelist.

Mystery Begins defines it as Daphne's. Daphne and Shaggy hang out a lot in this era.

I don't think it was established that Fred owned it until What's New.

I don't think it was established that Fred owned it until What's New. And What's New is in a completely different canon then the Hanna-Barbera era.

I thought shaggy originally owned it in the hb version or Daphne. The car they had in 13 ghosts was not the mystery machine though.

I know in that behind the scenes thing on the vhs I owned a while back daph said shaggy found it, don't know who owned it back than though. Also the Scooby doo and scrappy episodes I'm talking about didn't have daph them so. Maybe shaggy did back than? It's his kind of style, it'd make sense I guess. I kind of didn't like that Fred was the owner in what's new Scooby doo? Series though.

I thought it belonged to Daphne's dad even way back in the day but I can't be sure. Almost positive it wasn't Fred's until What's New though.

According to the official Scooby-Doo Character Reference Guide book (which was published around 1995), it was Daphne's father's weath that allowed them start Mystery Inc. and own the Mystery Machine. Years later those Scooby-Doo: Behind the Scenes promos aired, one of which stating that Shaggy found it. And years after that, the What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode "It's Mean, It's Green, It's the Mystery Machine" showed that it used to belong to a family band known as the Mystery Kids. The recent DTVs seem to go by Fred being the owner if my memory of how "close" he was with the Mystery Machine in Scooby-Doo! Frankencreepy is anything to go by... (been a while since I last saw it)

Until the Scrappy shorts, it wasn't established who owned the van. Back then, Shaggy and the dogs had it and drove around. That kept being the case till "The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show" and "The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries" where Daphne drove. 13 Ghosts is a different story cause it's a different van. I think that they did call it 'Mystery Machine' though. Their airplane was called 'Mystery Flying Machine', so why not call the van Mystery Machine in the first place? In Zombie Island, after the break-up of the gang, Daphne and Fred kept it to drive around and film Daphne's show. In the rest of the movies of that era (Witch's Ghost/Alien Invaders/Cyber Chase), it didn't have an owner. According to the "Those Meddling Kids" interviews back in 1999, Daphne's dad bought it and Shaggy came up with the name. In What's New, Fred was closer to it and had some new gadgets installed. So I guess it was his, as it seemed to be in SDMI too. He kept it at home (as said in "All Fear the Freak") and drove off Crystal Cove with it to search for his parents. But before that, in Get a Clue, Shaggy owned the van and made it transformable. There are many theories and many aspects of the story. I think that the van should belong to everyone - lol, even Scooby!
