Since we've also been talking about the latest Tom and Jerry direct-to-video movie here, I thought I'd start a discussion thread for the first direct-to-video Looney Tunes movie in nine years (and we certainly do need more of them, instead of just Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry!) Here is the trailer for "Rabbit's Run"... As some would expect, I was hoping they would be animated in the classic style, sort of like "Bah Humduck!," "Daffy Duck for President" or even the Wile E./Road Runner cameo on the "What's New Scooby-Doo" episode "New Mexico, Old Monster." I mean, if the Tom and Jerry movies can still have them drawn in the classic style, and the recent Scooby-Doo movies also being animated in a "retro" style, then why not give the Looney Tunes their classic look again? Instead, this is a lot like when "What's New Scooby-Doo" was being made, and all the Scooby-Doo direct-to-video movies from 2004 to 2009 had to be animated and produced in the same style, to the point where they just became 70-minute episodes of the series! And it also looks like it's going to be written by the same improv writers from the Groundlings that worked on "The Looney Tunes Show." I also see no signs of Spike Brandt or Tony Cervone. I guess they're both now sick of Looney Tunes? (they seem to prefer Tom and Jerry) That trailer also has rather poor sound mixing; hopefully a corrected one comes out soon. I had to wear headphones to hear them, though I still couldn't make out Lola due to the way she talks combined with the bad sound mixing. And it doesn't sound like Kristen Wiig is voicing Lola in this either... But I'm willing to give it a chance.

Someone brought it up in one of the other threads, but from a completly outside fan-perspective this doesn't bode very well for the Looney Tunes brand in the slightest. This seems more like the writers from The Looney Tunes Show still had some ideas to burn off so they let them make a movie to see if it goes well. Compare and contrast the Hanna Barbera movies which instead are becoming groundswell for references of older material, the fact a Looney Tunes movie is retreading a now cancelled show instead of the more "retro references with modern art" kind doesn't speak of brand confidence. (Other fiascoes over the last bit of years didn't help either I'm sure, and is probably why it took so long for this to even be a thing)
But I also wondered since WB did get some internet anger over some cancelled/ended shows not long before this thing would have needed been started, if it's more a dtv for older shows in general, not specifically for just the Looney Tunes or even The Looney Tunes Show.
But then this year has also seen what could be a shake up in our normal number set up for the year. Next year should clearly answer a lot of these questions definitively.

I have watched this trailer. Since I found "The Looney Tunes Show" pretty funny, I'll give this movie a chance.

This looks awesome! I always loved looney tune movies. I remember wearing out VHS tapes of how I spent my summer vacation and the bugs/roadrunner movie.

I will see this since it looks interesting and I liked The Looney Tunes Show. It looks like they mixed the animation from The Looney Tunes Show with the retro.

Apparently I've heard it's already out at some Wal-Marts.

Apparently I've heard it's already out at some Wal-Marts. Yes it is! The one I work at is selling them, and I already bought my copy. So it turns out the overseas animation was done by Rough Draft Korea. I find it odd, because they've animated better than that on the "Looney Tunes Show." But not having the movie animated by Warner's favored studios DongWoo or Lotto Animation (most of the episodes of "What's New" and SD:MI were animated by these studios) is apparently another sign that WB has not that much faith in the Looney Tunes franchise (compared to Scooby-Doo)...

Well, I finished watching the full film. I won't spoil anything, but I'll say it wasn't too bad. For the most part, it felt like an extended-length episode of "The Looney Tunes Show" but in a completely different continuity. I did get a kick out of people being annoyed by Lola's stupidity and klutziness, especially at one point when Bugs yelled at her that she was crazy. It was also nice to see Giovanni of "Long-Haired Hare" return, along with various other little Looney Tunes-related in-jokes and surprises. Although I did miss seeing Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote (come on, what's Looney Tunes without them? Oh well, can't have everything!) I did kind of get a "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" vibe at times from it. I wonder if the Improv writers had watched the movie for some inspiration? And as I have mentioned, it wasn't that "looney" at times. We did get a little slapstick and wise-cracking humor, but other than that, it had quite a few dull moments, very much like "The Looney Tunes Show" did, almost as if they forgot this was a cartoon! It didn't feature very many of the classic Warner Bros. cartoon sound effects as well (if only they got Monterey Post/DigiPost.TV to do the sound editing instead of Advantage Audio...) The animation was a step down from "The Looney Tunes Show" at times. I was surprised to see that Rough Draft Korea did the overseas animation services, as I recall their work on "The Looney Tunes Show" looked better than this. Maybe if they had Yearim Productions or Toon City animate the movie, it'd look better (or maybe even Lotto Animation would've done a better job too!) As I said, I still found the bimbo Lola maybe a little less annoying than on the show, due to the Kristen Wiig impersonator used here. Pete Puma has also now been recast, to Jess Harnell. It is kind of a step up from John Kassir's weird performance for him on the show, but I still kind of got these Lew Zealand vibes with the voice. Cecil Turtle was a tad annoying too; they didn't really show his evilness like they did in "The Looney Tunes Show," which was quite funny.
You can clearly tell Warner Bros. Animation put more effort into the Scooby-Doo/KISS crossover and "Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest" than this movie... Let's hope for the next Looney Tunes direct-to-video movie, they try a different approach (like my idea of themed short stories linked together in some way.)

Bugs: "Are you crazy"Daffy: "Legally; No. There's not a word for my condition"OKay, this was cool!! ;D The animation was simple but still worked for me. Lola can't help being destructive but that perfume was admittedly 'accidental-genius'.. I was happy to see Daffy, even a little. He was so much fun as aways! There was also a sort of Easter egg... The huge film poster above the theatre that said "Rabbit Run" and had Bugs and Lola with the perfume. It was in chasing scene. One of many... Also the shape of Sylvester and Tweety. The teleport tubes scene was as fun as in the trailer, one question: where did Alien Daffy came from? Heh.... totally Looney... The Goofy Gophers were totally different form what I've been used to see! And it was surprising to see Pepé Le Pew as head of the perfume gallery... I recommend it to all who want to have some lightly action-packed fun entertainment!

Watched this yesterday. Admittedly, yes, it did feel like an extended episode of "The Looney Tunes Show", only set in a parallel universe, since the Looney Tunes stars didn't know each other - and Bugs and Daffy were cab drivers! It was pretty enjoyable, with quite a few catchy jokes. Lola was bumbling as always, and Daffy was hilarious! Bugs was LTS-style Bugs, the witty and snappy rabbit. Overall, in terms of plot, it was pretty good. The animation was a little edgy, but fine. Worth a watch for the Looney Tunes lovers. Hope to see more of these in the future!
