I was watching a trailer for Moon Monster Madness (It hasn't come out in the UK yet) and they used the What's New Scooby Doo theme.
That series finished in 2006, so why don't they use the Mystery Incorperated theme in them?

That series finished in 2006, so why don't they use the Mystery Incorperated theme in them? There could be a number of reasons... Rights I - the creator of the music or CN may not have given the rights for use in films Rights II - WB own the WNSD theme so it is 'free' The WNSD theme has a better fit or the film than SD:MI It has been used in other films so why mess with the branding It is more recognizable as Scooby Doo (the clue is in the lyrics after all) whereas SD:MI is just a tune They may consider the SD:MI to be a bit 'toxic' as it had a very mixed reception so they don't want the film to be associated with it

I believe this is referencing the Anarbor cover of the theme that they've been using on all the new movie trailers but not in the actual films themselves.
I assume the marketing department just really likes the way the guy sings 'What's New Scooby Doo'? But I don't think they would want to do the theme from MI, but if they replaced it shouldn't be in one of the versions of someone singing "Scooby Doo where are you?" instead?

I remember when the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade had the Scooby-Doo balloon in it, they'd play the "What's New Scooby-Doo" theme, even after some time the show had ended! I find that sad, that the "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You" theme seems to be no more nowadays. Too bad, because for some time it was the most recognizable theme. The first five direct-to-video movies used it, too. It's a lot like if Warner decided that this should be the main theme for the Looney Tunes nowadays...
