What if whoever works on it posts their final version here so we stay up to date? Will that work? There could be some overlap unfortunately. I'm going to hold off until russm goes through the past projects and we don't do unnecessary work I can't find any spreadsheets at the moment, just the java code, though I'm sure I did some spreadsheet work. Better roll ou my sleves and get to work on this. First things first let us document what the spreadsheet does at the moment then call that version 0.1 and have the version in the filename, also we need to add a version control sheet where a note ow what has been changes in that version is kept, so we can keep track of what is happening. As we don't have source or change control software we'll have to do this old school.

Does Scooby and/or Shaggy need Scooby Snacks in order to progress the story? Do Shag and Scoob preform a skit to distract the monster chasing them? (usually a barber shop, restaurant waiting, or doctor appointment) Is there an additional dog? (Dum/Scrappy) Multiple or single monster(s)? Is there a small animal in the mystery? [WAY S1E1 had a frog, WAY S2E7 had a mouse, etc) Does the mystery begin with scenes of the gang or villain?
I'll let you know if I come up with more, good thread here!

Russ, what's the status on the mystery generator? Stuck in writer's block along with all my fan fiction. I don't code anymore at work, moving into systems engineering instead which needs Visio skills not Visual whatever. What exactly am I meant to be doing?

I have some good news... I am working on enhancing Russ's code for a Scooby-Doo Mystery Plot Generator program i plan to create in C# code, using Visual Studio 2017. Much of the code is developed, based on the criteria data in Russ's Javascript code, but as an added bonus, I added extra criteria to describe a suspevt's physical features, such as gender, skin color (Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, etc.), hair color and hairstyle, and wardrobe. i even plan on adding a section for randomizing first names (by gender) and last names, using US Census Bureau data from the 1970s and 1980s for first nanes, and use 1,000 surnames to choose from.
If this project is a success, I may take a stab at developing a script generator program, which might take a bit more work, but well worth it in the end!

KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid. You can define a set of yes/no options that can be decided by a simple probability function (simple one is a generate a random number between 0 and 1 for each question and anything over 0.5 is a yes or have that probability modified by other parts of the programme). The aim was to generate the outline of a story that you could then flesh out further, not to generate the story itself. Though if you want to go for a PhD in computing and AI then feel free to crack on with the story writing part as that level of work would easily get you a PhD as natural language anything is hard and throwing context and semantics and all the other stuff that goes into a story is really hard. General rule of thumb is that if it is easy for us it is hard for a computer and vice versa.
