I haven't seen the movie yet, but this article is driving me crazy! Daphne 'Cursed' From Size 2 To Size 8 In New 'Scooby-Doo' MovieI know that women in this world have issues with the way they look. I can totally relate to that being a female in this day and being told that if I am not stick thin then I am not good enough. I am also a mom, so I can relate to my kids seeing things on TV and it making them feel a certain way. However, I do not blame TV shows or movies for any issues my kids may have. It is my responsibility to raise my kids and teach them about life. My kids know that what they see on TV is not real. You can't blame Daphne for giving girls a misconception of the way they look. Daphne's character has always been stuck on the way she looks, this is nothing new. According to the article, which was written by someone who hasn't seen the movie, Daphne freaked out over going from a size 2 to a size 8. Ummm...that drastic of a weight gain should freak anyone out! It sickens me that now there is this whole controversy over this movie because of Daphne's reaction. DAPHNE IS A CARTOON CHARACTER! If you don't talk to your kids and teach them healthy ways, then that is your fault, not the fault of a cartoon character. As a parent, it is your responsibility to teach your kids...and if you don't think that the writers or WB handled this appropriately, then use it as a teaching opportunity for your kids instead of a way to attack someone else. Daphne being upset over her weight gain is the least of your worries as a parent.

Totally agree 100% with you. People are never happy unless they are complaining it seems. I think the movie was funny and to be honest if I was Daphne I would of freaked out too. To go 6 sizes up in a matter of seconds no matter what your start size is crazy! lol.

At one point in the article (after bashing the movie), the person who wrote it said they never even watched the movie themselves, he just got his info from someone else. This article reminds me a lot of the "Cartoons causing obesity" story that was on the news a few years ago, where parents were blaming their child's obesity on the cartoon characters. It sickens me that parents are so quick to blame everyone else for something their kids saw on TV. If you can't control your own children, that's your problem, not the problem of cartoons. PARENTS have to take charge of teaching their child right from wrong. You are the one raising your kids, not a cartoon. Like SA said, you have to teach kids that what's on TV isn't real. If your kid gets fat because he/she saw Daphne get fat on TV, then you are not a good parent.

I think if the person who wrote the article actually saw the movie they would see the message they were trying to convey. In my opinion, they were saying that everyone needs to be supportive and it doesn't matter what you look like. This is shown when Fred literally didn't even notice the weight gain and he still liked her for who she was. This was also shown when the only thing Shaggy cared about was that her hair looked funny. Finally, crazy-Velma was acting opposite to her real self when she said Daphne looked horrible. If she was her right self, she wouldn't care either. However, there still is no such thing as bad publicity. . .

So wouldn't this be a positve message like you said and not a negative one?

People just hear, "Hey, in the new Scooby cartoon Daphne suddenly gains weight and hates it," and these people say, "SCOOBY DOO IS FAT SHAMING AND CHILDREN ARE IN DANGER!" Absolutely ridiculous. In all seriousness, it's a cartoon. These writers should be writing about things that are more important and not writing about a movie they haven't even seen.

For godness sake!! It's a cartoon, people!! If Shaggy and Scooby had a healthy diet, the Scooby show would have turned out like a Dora show of some type - only focused on eating properly...

You can put Scooby on as many unhealthy things as you want, if the parents buy it for their kids, they can't blame these food companies for their kids being over weight. My kids don't get to decide what food I buy in my house or what snacks they get to have. I wish people would stop complaining.

Rough article! This part got me annoyed most of all "The statement also notes that Daphne’s longtime love, Fred, “didn’t even notice a change and that she always looks great to him.” That message could be the worst of all — that a woman’s self-esteem and acceptance of her body and looks comes from a man’s approval, not from within." Geez people, lighten up! It's a cartoon! Talk to your kids about self image, don't expect them to learn it from a cartoon.

To be fair, I bought A LOT of Scooby doo cereal because of Scooby lol Does anyone remember the part in Monsters Unleashed where Shaggy gets buff? What kind of message does that send to people with ectomorphic body types?! Should be banned. Now that I think about it, I'm offended by people who can get big because I can't. Therefore we need to remove all fat people from everything because its offensive to those who cannot gain weight.

I didn't find anything wrong with the weight thing in the movie. She blew up because of her shellfish allergy. I didn't see that in any of the articles I read. Oh yeah...most of the articles I read were written by people that didn't see the movie yet. I thought it would have been an issue with Fred's "depression" over the Mystery Machine, but no one cared about that either. People tend to make a huge deal out of nothing!

People often leap nowadays to make internet complaints without apparently having read/watched/played whatever it is and actually paid attention. As someone else in this thread mentioned, the way it was written in provided something far more positive than whatever exactly the articles writers were watching.
But sometimes when people want attention they'll see what they want. But i'm sure plenty of kids will watch the new Scooby movie and get a whole different lesson than the article acts like they will.
