This was just on TV the other day and I totally had to DVR it! This is probably my favorite What's New episode. I mentioned in another topic how much I really enjoyed Rufus Raucous's character and I really, really do! Steve Blum did an amazing job giving life to this smooth talking magician and bringing this aura of 'cool' to the character. As you can tell I was pretty happy to discover that Rufus wasn't really dead, that he had gone into hiding and the fact that he faked his death to go underground and work on his street magic just added a lot of depth to his character. He wasn't a money-hungry star, he was just a guy who liked amazing people with magic tricks and I think it adds this amazing level of complexity to him; something you wouldn't imagine in a one-shot side character.
I also liked that WB used Lindsay Pagano as the musical act for this one instead of going back to The Hex Girls as they so often do. When they use actual musical acts or switch it up a bit it makes the music episodes seem less tired and recycled; gives it a fresh feel and you don't mind watching it because it doesn't feel like the same old thing.
Really loved this episode.

In my opinion they could've used The Hex Girls and I would've enjoyed it just the same. I loved Rufus Raucous very much. He had a very nice voice which I am always quite the sucker for, he was very good at magic but he didn't use it to become mega famous and rich, and I like that he takes off his mask saying that there was a new face in magic and that it was his own. This isn't my favorite WNSD episode but it's certainly up in the ranks.

This was a cool episode. Rufus Raucous was a cool side character. I also loved seeing Scooby in Vegas for the only time in history. The monster was also very original and fun

I felt like The first half of this episode doesn't seem to connect well to the second half. In the first half when we first hear Dell Stone tell the gang about Rufus Raucous, his lines and delivery thereof very much imply a belief that the magician is now deceased. Yet at the bridge point between the two halves, he completely upends that whole thing by denying that Rufus had died. from then they just operate on the belief that that raucous may very well still be alive which contradicts the dialogue earlier in the episode.

I really liked this episode. The villain was cool and Lindsay made a great addition to this episode. This episode is honestly even more fascinating to me knowing that Lindsay's involvement in the episode was due to Warner Brothers (her label) recommending she be in the episode to promote her new album. (She shared this in an brief interview I did with her for my blog this summer).

I always took it as Dell Stone was helping Rufus Raucous with hiding and pretending that he was dead and the guy that they saw in the sauna would have known the truth
