A pretty neat background for the Mystery Machine, though it defines anything we've seen so far about getting it from Daphne's father...

Oh, I had watched that loooong time ago. So cool!! I liked it when Daphne and the gang did the whole spirit communication fiasco to reveal the suspect. And the mystery machine being haunted was creepy!! ;P

I don't mean to bump an old topic but I didn't think this merited making a new one.
I was watching this episode today and I wanted to know if anyone else realized the little hints to the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? series? At the beginning of the episode, Scooby and Shaggy are walking home from the movies and Shaggy wonders how Scooby talked him into seeing Return of Astro Mutt: Space Dog of the Future twice. What a Night for a Knight, the very first episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, opens with Shaggy and Scooby walking home from the movies and Shaggy wonders how Scooby talked him into seeing Star: Dog Ranger of the North Woods twice. Later in the episode, when they've figured out whodunit, music from the original series plays.
I don't know how many times I've watched this episode and this is the first time I've ever noticed that. Is it just this episode? Has anyone else noticed any nods to the original series in other What's New Scooby-Doo? episodes?

I'd noticed the first "walking home from the movies" reference but I never noticed the second one. Thanks for sharing Daphne!

I got into Simple Plan because of this episode. The theme song and the chase song.

I'm not sure that this episode is cannon though. The van was Daphne's.

I'm not sure that this episode is cannon though. The van was Daphne's. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and What's New Scooby-Doo were reboots. Shows always change continuity for some reason.

To be fair continuity was never the show's strong point - in most cases it didn't matter. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo was made to erase Scrappy-Doo and Flim Flam out so it counts as a reboot. Whats New Scooby-Doo was shown to follow A Pup Named Scooby-Doo in one of the episodes.

You are assuming that all the shows are intended to be linked together in the same way that the series in say Babylon 5, Game of Thrones etc are causally linked. The later shows borrowed or referred to earlier shows simply because they were there to use as reference, not because there was some grand story-arc handed down between generations of Scooby Doo writers. How the various shows fit together is almost a theological argument.

How the various shows fit together is almost a theological argument. I mean A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and What's New Scooby-Doo rebooted the series removing The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show through The 13 Ghosts of Scoony-Doo out of the timeline. I have a theory that The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show, the first four WB DTVs and What's New Scooby-Doo are alternate futures for the gang and set in alternate universes. The first Scrappy-Doo series could be part of the What's New Scooby-Doo timeline because Scrappy was referenced in later What's New Scooby-Doo productions. Another theory I made was APNSD-Present takes place inside Fred's mind as he did say he became a writer in The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries which would also make since with the characters acting different and the different relationships.

I don't think there is a natural timeline you could draw joining all the series together and all set in the same universe (SD:MI is already set in an alternative universe according to the writers). But because of that you, me, anyone can join the dots in a way that we find the most pleasing. You want Shaphne, go for it I'm not going to stop you, but show the same regard for those with different interpretations.
I've seen someone try as they wanted it to fit to their own personal take on the show, it was an elegant display of various logical fallacies - begging the question, Texas sharp-shooter, post hoc ergo propter hoc and confirmation bias all put in an appearance. What was sad was that this wasn't for fun (in which case fallacy away), rather they were deadly serious as they wanted to show that their view was the one and only true view and all other views and parings were wrong.
