The episodes on the disc appear to be a good transfer at around 5mb/s for every episode and the special slightly higher.
Mecha Mutt is 22 minutes and feels like an Episode long mini movie. It could also be construed as an episode with special like video. This one loses the obnoxious fanboi in jokes that have been plaguing recent releases as well as script issues pertaining to inappropriate assertions like your momma jokes and other out of character for scooby character comments. You have your checklist: Indigenous Food: Check Robot Monster: Check Allusions to a shadowy figure behind it all: Check Helpless Client: Check Arrogant Client: Check
Much of this could have been expanded into a full special, which, is probably my difficulty with it. Decidedly average, good to watch, average because of it's episode like length.

What happened to the animation? The quality and consistency of the characters' faces seems to have taken a dive.

Oh good you noticed it too. I watched this yesterday and yeah the quality compared to the previous ones was terrible, especially noticeable with scooby but some of the scenes looked like the characters were not apart of the background. The fact that they are on another layer is glaringly obvious in one of the last scenes where they appear to have been thrown over the top of the background like a after thought.
Maybe the animation department is being overworked with all the new material being released lately? I'm not sure but with Stagefright, spooky scarecrow, mecha mutt menace and heavens knows what else in the works it seems plausible. The next 13 spooky tales is missing the special episode so maybe this drop in quality has been noticed by the people in charge and the focus has been shifted back to the full length movies? so many possibilities.
Storyline was rushed (but 22 minutes isn't much time so that's not the be all and the end all)The person behind it all is so obvious its the first time I've guessed the villain straight away (I'm always surprised at the unmasking it was that obvious), they tried too hard to make the other suspects look guilty and in the process made them look innocent and the story line with mechanical dogs going bad has been done to death whats new scooby doo had one, mystery incorporated had one and a few showed up in the mask of the blue falcon.
Also one last complaint petty, jealous Daphne raised her head again in this one. I like the Fred and Daphne pairing it was the first pairing I've ever liked and it will always be my favourite and I like the characters however I don't like it when throughout the whole episode Daphne turns into a jealous monster. Pretty sure every line she said between the bad guy getting introduced and the bad guy getting caught was more or less "I'm so jealous" not a good look in fact it was down right annoying when it swallows the rest of her personality.
I found the jokes funny and I understand that there are time restraints and limitations to how much one group of people can do but I think this one fell short. That went longer than expected.

Great episodes and yes, the Mecha Mutt Menace special's animation is slightly different. I preferred the Spooky Scarecrow though, although I have been anticipating for both of them.

Great episodes and yes, the Mecha Mutt Menace special's animation is slightly different. I think calling it slightly different is being generous. It looks like they took some of the character features from SDMI (more angular, smaller eyes) and tried to apply it to the current film designs, and it falls way short (in my eyes).

good to get folks feedback on it. so we'll toss it in the 'passable but not great' catergory. not a bomb like first live action Scooby Doo or Arabian Nights but on the same token , a far cry from Zombie Island.

Watched the special this morning.
It was pretty good, and the animation was very different.
I would have wanted this to be longer.... it seems like they rushed the storyline a little.
Probably the only other thing I didn't like was the Fraphne storyline, the Fraphne thing in here was unneeded and somewhat annoying.....and normally I don't mind when they have Fraphne storylines.
Hope to see more specials like this one and the Spooky Scarecrow.

The Fraphne stuff didn't bother me, though it's the same "Daphne is jealous over Fred liking another girl" routine we've seen before. I feel like Spooky Scarecrow was better, even though I have my own issues with that one. I think Mecha Mutt probably could've served better as a movie.

It was great! Animation was... different, but still not bad! I guess Daphne was all along right on this one! ;P Lol, is there a way back to Earth for Shaggy and Scooby? Judging from the following movies, specials and series, yep! But still... Wow, Lol!

I would have preferred if they gave us a break from Fraphne and had Shaggy be the one with the crush have Velma be jealous. We hardly ever see any Shelma moments outside the pre-scrappy years and the comics.
