Surprised no one posted a review of this episode earlier...unless I just couldn't find it.
First thing I thought was wild was that they added Hot Dog Water to the opening title sequence theme song, replacing Daphne. I'm not sure if that was shown on CN, since they didn't show the opening theme in the first couple episodes. (My DVR missed EP 29 so I had to download it online, and it was complete with both beginning and full size ending credits.)
Overall I liked this better than the first Clown episode. A little more gripping, although to be fair the first episode had to resolve several cliffhanger issues in addition to the weekly mystery. I pretty much knew Hotner was the villain, not only because all the people being kidnapped were ones that an actor could benefit from, but ALSO because the same goofy short that showed the unmasking of the EP 28 villain IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EPISODE also showed Hotner being unmasked! Oh well.
Fred kidnapping Daphne and taking her to the beach was unexpected...I thought she was dreaming at first. And I loved the jet sequence with Fred climbing aboard and flying it through crazy turns and dives, and overtop the ocean surface and all. Very cool visual and very heroic. Also liked the chase scene in the passenger compartment with Shaggy and Scooby. SD:MI doesn't really use chase sequences all that much, so it was fun to watch. And I was glad to see Daphne return to the gang, though I felt bad for Hot Dog Water. Not sure where that will go, though I'm sure most of you already know since I'm way behind.
And also seeing Angel/Cassidy come back into the story. Curious how that will develop too. And it's probably just me, but I like her with short hair much better.
Looking forward to Episode 30...hopefully tonight if all goes well.
