It kinda makes me wonder if they're testing the waters for a new series with the DTV animation style. After all, we know SDMI isn't getting a 3rd season.

It kinda makes me wonder if they're testing the waters for a new series with the DTV animation style. It could be. Especially maybe if they're wanting to start doing something different with the feature-length DTV films, and use this theoretical new series to provide the 'traditional' Scooby-Doo format instead of the other-way-around. They've already done a musical, and are now working on the WWF combo and DynoMutt crossovers, all of which are pretty different from the previous DTV format. A new series like the one you propose would free them up to do more of that, while still providing our traditional 'fix'. That could work for me, but only if one or the other treats the mystery/spooky aspect seriously. If they want to put a more humorous edge to the DTV's, that's okay as long as any new series has a good weekly mystery. My only criticism at times with SD:MI has been that they sometimes treat the weekly mystery as an afterthought or parody portion of the episode. Of course they balance that with the Curse of Crystal Cove story, which is probably among the most chilling elements ever in Scooby, but those sometimes only last a minute or so in any given episode. I was reminded of this discussion after reading about the new upcoming 'mini-movies'. Looks like they may not constitute a complete series since they're spaced so far apart, but I am still wondering if they will become the more 'normal' Scooby mystery 'movies' we're used to, with the full-length DTV's going off in more individually unique directions? It kinda makes me wonder if they're testing the waters for a new series with the DTV animation style. After all, we know SDMI isn't getting a 3rd season. I think I'm on the other side of the fence...I don't think these specials are leading to a new series in this style. I think they are what they are; specials done in the current "in-house traditional style" as added content to sell DVDs and slot in some Cartoon Network air time. No new development resources or pre-production design work required. They also act as a "classic style" option for those not interested in the current "funky-style" scooby animation...in this case, mystery incorporated. I feel that they will be a means to bridge the gap between mystery inc and whatever comes next, which I suspect will be a non-traditional format and veer somewhat away from the "gang of meddling kids solving a mystery" concept (to differentiate itself from mystery incorporated...remember they went to "get a clue" after "what's new" to mix things up.) All I'm guessing is that whatever comes next, will probably be a change like 13 ghosts or even pup named SD from what we have been getting and will leave the DTVs and special episodes (aka mini-movies) to the familiar.
